Placerville California
California’s beautiful El Dorado County encompasses land above the Sacramento Valley to South Lake Tahoe, with majestic mountains, rushing rivers, and trout filled lakes in between. El Dorado, known as the “Golden County”, is home to legendary Gold towns including Placerville, and Georgetown, as well as resort towns such as South Lake Tahoe.
Located adjacent to the American and Yuba Rivers, on Historic Highway 49, gold seeker's still come to El Dorado County with dreams of striking it rich. They bring their Gold pans, sleuce boxes, dredges, and plain old ingenuity to find the gold left behind by the old 49ers.
Placerville, Georgetown, and South Lake Tahoe call this county “home”. The greatest population concentration is in the Sacramento suburban area, where workers move in order to enjoy a more laid back lifestyle in their off hours. The most populous communities are El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Shingle Springs.
Yuba River
Both families and teachers are attracted to El Dorado County because of the rich educational experiences offered. The region is still considered rural enough to entice those tired or not interested in big city life, while at the same time offering high-tech training to students of all ages.
South Lake Tahoe
If art is your passion, you’ll find works by a variety of artists at the many county galleries. Attend the art walk in Placerville every third Saturday to view the most works in one two-block area. You will find lovely accommodations where you will be treated like royalty.
One such place is Strawberry Lodge; a historical site built originally in 1858 and was a stop for the Pony Express. It’s gone through many incarnations since, and has been under the current ownership since 1983.
